A Lesson from a Messy Makeover
It started with good intentions, a weekend repaint to freshen up the living room. The paint was premium, the plan simple… until fine dust coated every shelf, paint drops speckled the wooden floor, and the couch wore a few unplanned “decorative” streaks.
The problem wasn’t the paint, it was the lack of surface protection.
At Nevis Painting, we know that a flawless paint job starts long before the first brushstroke. Proper surface protection keeps your home clean, your furniture safe, and your peace of mind intact. It’s the quiet layer of care that ensures your investment looks professional — and stays that way.
Why Surface Protection for Painting Matters
Surface protection is often overlooked, yet it’s what separates a neat job from a messy one. It keeps drips off your floors, dust out of your lungs, and ensures your investment lasts for years.
Without it, even the best paintwork loses its charm when surrounded by splatter or damage. Smart preparation isn’t just a step in the process, it’s the foundation of a finish that looks polished, lasts longer, and truly transforms your space.
Drop Cloths, Plastic Sheeting & Floor Guards: The First Line of Defense
Professional painters don’t just paint, they plan.
Before any paint touches a wall, Nevis Painting carefully prepares and protects every surface:
Heavy-duty drop cloths shield tiles, carpets, and wood floors.
Plastic sheeting wraps furniture, fixtures, and fittings.
Floor guards and corner shields protect high-traffic areas and trim edges.
By using the right protection in the right places, we ensure that when the project is complete, the only thing that’s changed is your wall, not your home.
Precision Masking for Clean Lines
Masking is where artistry meets accuracy. Proper taping creates crisp edges and prevents paint from bleeding into areas it shouldn’t.
At Nevis Painting, we use premium painter’s tape designed for different surfaces, walls, windows, and trims, ensuring clean, sharp lines every time.
Pro Tip for Homeowners: Move smaller items like lamps, décor, or curtains before the team arrives. It speeds up preparation and ensures every inch is covered and protected properly.
Dust Control: The Unsung Hero of a Clean Project
Dust is every homeowner’s nightmare, especially during sanding or scraping. Without the right care, it can travel fast and settle everywhere.
Our teams take extra steps to reduce and contain dust throughout your project. From careful floor protection to daily clean-ups and detailed end-of-day inspections, we make sure your environment stays tidy, breathable, and comfortable while work is underway.
Tip: If you’re living or working on-site, let us know which rooms you use most. We’ll plan our workflow to minimize disruption and keep your routine running smoothly.
